These ground-based elements are some of the most
popular activities; they are VERY inclusive and Great
Fun!
There are two distinct types of low rope elements the
stand-alone challenge and the challenge course element.

These are attempted in isolation to all the other
activities and allow groups to focus on a specific task.

CHALLENGE COURSE
These are a series of elements strung together
concurrently to form a multi-layered challenge
Challenge course are generally constructed between
trees, but where there aren’t any trees then they can be
constructed in the modular challenge course

MODULAR CHALLENGE
COURSE
These are free standing low rope courses which can be
constructed anywhere.
A well design challenge course should have a list of
features including:-
A range of physical, mental individual and group
challenges
The course should be progressive with challenges
building upon each other to test the group in a wide
variety of disciplines
In addition to the individual challenges the course
should be a multi layered challenge consisting not only
of the immediate challenge, but should prompt the group
to thing longer term on how the approach subsequent
challenges.
It should be a metaphor reflecting how the group
interacts within itself and how it attempts
The course should allow different groups to attempt
the same tasks simultaneously but crucially whilst
travelling in different directs, this in itself throws
up a huge variety of interesting scenarios.
The course should be able to support a wide variety
of scenario-based games as part of an integrated course.
